THE EFFECT OF USING SHARED READING METHOD ON STUDENTS’ READING COMPREHENSION AT GRADE XI OF SMAN 3 LINGGA

Abstract

This study aims to find out Shared Reading method in teaching reading comprehension effective and students’ response toward reading comprehension using Shared Reading Method at the grade XI of SMAN 3 Lingga. This research is an experimental research. This study uses one class with a population of 40 students. Based on statistical results, the students’ reading text book before being taught using Shared Reading Method is generally low. the frequency percentage distribution of students’ pre-test was 52.75 in Poor category with total score 2110. The frequency percentage distribution of students’ pre-test score was no students got excellent, very good and student got good category, while 4 students (15.00%) got fairly good category, 9 students (25.00%) got fairly category, 17 students (30.00%) got poor category and 10 students (30.00%) got very poor category. The students’ reading after being taught using Shared Reading Method got good result. The results of mean score for post-test was 80.3=80 in Good category by total score is 3215. the frequency percentage distribution of students’ post test score was 5 students (15.00%) got very good category, 26 students (65.00%) got good category, 9 students (20.00%) got fairly good category, and no students got fairly, excellent, poor and very poor category. There is a significant score of the students’ achievement in give test and questionnaire being taught using the Shared Reading method. The total score of test using Shared Reading method is higher. The percentage of positive answers (strongly agree and agree) were 90%, while in the negative answers (disagree and strongly disagree) were 10%, it means that the positive answers were higher than in the negative answers. This proved that using the shared reading method could develop students’ reading comprehension.
